Barry Turner

Obtained a BA in Political Science from the University of Alberta. Elected to Morinville Town Council in 1995 right out of University and served on Council for 12 years. In addition to council Barry worked as a roof and floor truss designer, starting with residential design and eventually on to commercial projects. In 2006 he obtained a CAPM certificate from the PMI, and during his project management studies he came across some agile project management methods and discovered Scrum. In early 2007 he became a ScrumMaster by attended a training course given by Berteig Consulting. Barry established his own project managment consulting company and began using a scrum-based process to implement some lean manufacturing changes at the truss plant where he worked. In October of 2007 he attended a certificate Lean Manufacturing Training Course, and continued to work with a team to implement Lean. In 2008, he took on some projects with the Town of Morinville and managed several projects including the 2008 and 2009 Municipal Census, the Morinville Museum Development Project, the Morinville Website Redevelopment Project, and began work on the Morinville Sustainability Plan and the Community Housing Plan. On each project he introduced more and more Scrum methodoligies and by the end of his time with the Town he was facilitating two effective scrum teams. More recently Barry is working as a contract ScrumMaster for Breakwell Consulting and is facilitating a team of consultants on the development of a municipal parks and open spaces plan, as well as being a contributing team member.
